It is an ironic thing that what I search for in my work, day after day, can result in an unexpected and/or a right-underneath-my-nose solution. Mixing oil paint, applying paint and considering its affect is fundamental to my work- pretty much every day in one shape or form. My palette is a moveable feast of color, hue, tone and value, aiming for the right combination on the support. I am reminded of Bob Kulicke’s comment to fellow painter Al York, “What Al doesn’t understand is that in art you never hit what you are aiming at, but the difference may not be downward.” When I take a step back, these incidental discoveries and even experiments can be the delight of the day.
